Endodontics |
Endodontics, from the Greek endo (inside) and odons (tooth), is a specialist sub-field of dentistry that deals with the tooth pulp and the tissues surrounding the root of a tooth. The pulp (containing nerves, arterioles and venules as well as lymphatic tissue and fibrous tissue) can become diseased or injured, and is often unable to repair itself; if it dies, endodontic treatment is required.

Effect of calcium hydroxide as a supplementary barrier in the radicular penetration of hydrogen peroxide during intracoronal bleaching.
The thermocatalytic technique of nonvital bleaching created anacidic pH cervical external root surface, whilst Ca(OH)2 placed together with the isolating barrier in the pulp chamber did not cause a statistically signi¢ cant increase of the pH values recorded in the surrounding medium. The clinical signi¢cance of these ¢ndings can only be determined by further investigations in order to examine the bu¡ering in£uence of the oral environment on the pH created in the external root surface during bleaching procedures involving the use of H2O2.
